STATIC-X Go "Power Metal" On RAMONES Tribute

March 28, 2002

STATIC-X have just completed their cover of THE RAMONES' "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" at Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California for the upcoming DV8/Columbia Records tribute to THE RAMONES. Also scheduled to appear on the collection are ROB ZOMBIE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, EDDIE VEDDER, MARILYN MANSON, GREEN DAY, MOTORHEAD, RANCID, BILLY CORGAN, THE OFFSPRING, and U2.

According to STATIC-X guitarist Tripp Eisen, the band almost didn't make it on the album.

At first, Johnny Ramone, who has final approval on a lot of things, was like, 'I've never even heard of STATIC-X,' Eisen told Allstar. I sent him an email about how much of a fan I was of THE RAMONES growing up and it was something really special. I knew he was a Rush Limbaugh fan, too, I saw him on the [The Rush Limbaugh Show] in the audience. I mentioned that and [it] must have clicked something with him and he was like, 'Alright. You're on it!'

[Our version of 'Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment' is] a power metal version of a RAMONES song. RAMONES meets METALLICA, for lack of a better term just pumped-up, grinding guitars. It's totally us. The whole vibe just sounds great."

The as-yet-untitled RAMONES tribute is due in the spring.
